WELCOME TO FIRST FRIDAY!

Hi there!  Welcome to our first First Friday Happy Hour.  This is something I'm introducing where on the first Friday of every month we are going to have a cocktail, and talk about what we are up to here at Honey Locust Home.

You will be able to find out about upcoming products to look for, in the shop, and projects we are planning. There will also be sales and giveaways.  Most importantly, we want to get to know more about you!  Please comment and share any projects you are working on or planning.  And then be sure to come back and update us each month.

We of course need to have a drink for happy hour!  This month is Christmas which inspired me to make a Ginger Apricot Brandy Slush. Growing up my family hosted Christmas Eve dinner, and I remember my Mom always made Apricot Brandy Slush. 

I loved those Christmas Eve dinners with all our relatives.  So when I was planning the drink to make for this First Friday Apricot Brady Slush is the first thing I thought of. 

I put a ginger twist to it and it is quite yummy.  To make you need:

1 cup ginger tea (I brewed 2 ginger tea bags in on cup of water)

1 cup orange juice

1 cup lemonade

1 cup apricot brandy

Ginger Beer and Maraschino cherries

Serve in a stemless white wine glass or small jelly jar.  I often use small jelly jars for serving wine and cocktails.  We are not good with real glassware in our house, so if you come over you will most likely be served your drink in a mason jar:)

To make you brew the ginger tea and then bring it to room temperature.  Then mix the tea, orange juice, lemonade, and apricot bandy and pour it all into a container to go in the freezer.  I think it works best when it freezes overnight.  When all is frozen you scoop out the slushy goodness into your glass, top with ginger beer, garnish with a cherry and enjoy!

We have been crazy busy around here. Mostly, I have been working the local market scene selling soap, trying to keep up with making soap, and other products to put in the shop. Josh has stayed busy with the chickens, quail, turkeys, and pigs.

We are looking forward to diving into many new projects in the new year.  For one, we are planning on putting in a soap kitchen!  Currently, I work in our kitchen.  Josh and I are often in each others way.  It is really not ideal working in our kitchen.  It is a busy place between breakfast, packing lunches, making dinner, and then having it all cleaned up.  It is just too much for one space.  I am crazy excited about getting a designated space to make soap!  You can always follow our Instagram to catch up with us and projects we are working on.

Oh, and here is a quick DIY Christmas decorating project I want to share.  The little (not so little) people in our house wanted some Christmas cheer in their rooms, so we threw these little faux fireplaces together.  I am quite pleased with how they turned out, and my kiddos actually did most of the work to make them.  I just gave them guidance.The  fireplace is made out of poster board, the fire is felt with battery operated tea light candles, a mantle made of foam board and covered in wood printed Duck Tape, and a Christmas tree.  It was super simple to put together with a few inexpensive supplies from any local craft store.
