FIRST FRIDAY - SEPTEMBER

Welcome to our September First Friday!  It's hard to believe it is September already!  So many of the social media accounts I follow are talking about pumpkins, cozy sweaters, and spiced lattes.  I am just not there yet.  Summer just ended, it was just last week that I put the kiddos on the bus, they are starting 8th and 7th grade.  I mean, they still have a pool party this weekend.  It has also been hot, in the 90's, here all this past week.  So I think I am going to enjoy these last few weeks of summer, and not push the pumpkins.

This First Friday we are drinking a Vodka Basil Gimlet!  To go along with this fabulous drink I made Basil Lime soap, available in the shop.  I used my favorite combination of oils and butters to make this soap; coconut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, shea butter, mango butter, and castor oil.  I find this combination super creamy and bubbly.  I also love the combination of basil and lime.

I thought a Gimlet was made with gin, but I made it with Vodka, and Mr. Boston Official Bartender's Guide said there is a Vodka Gimlet.  To get the basil flavor I added fresh chopped basil to the shaker.  We also had a ton of limes so I decided to use freshly squeezed lime juice.  You can certainly use lime juice from the store.

There are just a couple of things I want to share with you guys...

This past month I introduced our Soap Subscription Box!  This is something I have wanted to do for a while and am pretty excited it is finally up and running.  When you subscribe you get four bars of soap in the mail every three months.  It is so much easier than finding me at markets, especially if you don't live close, or having to remember to shop online.  Thank you to everyone that has already subscribed!  If you want to find out more or subscribe go here :-)

I also thought I would share our a about the flowers I planted back in May.  You see, I am not the best at watering anything after I plant it.  As usual I went and bought a few plants, put them in the planters in the front of the house, and hoped for the best.

With the best intentions of watering, and I did a couple of times in June, and then not so much.   August rolls around and they look this.

I honestly had no idea how they how had gotten to look so great! I just knew I had not been watering them.  I casually mentioned to Josh how great my flowers were looking, and how I had no idea how they had gotten that way.  He kindly let me know he had been watering them and had added Comfrey Tea to them a couple of times.  Josh shared on our Instagram him making Comfrey tea.  My understanding is comfrey tea is a natural fertilizer for plants, it is high in nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium.  I will see if I can get Josh to come on here and tell you a little more comfrey and comfrey tea and how he uses it as a fertilizer.

I also wanted to let you guys know about the soap favors we have.

You can order soap favors in the shop, be sure to let me know the colors and scents you would want me to use.  Or you can email me at mindy@honeylocushome.com and let me know what you are looking for.

Well that is all I have for this Friday.  Hope your weekend is full of fun and have a great September!!
