Making Sourdough
I am so ready to make soap again. On top of the studio being unusable, I don't feel comfortable enough to make soap in the rental home we are in. I am also overwhelmed by the thought of adding it back into my life. There is so much I am doing to get our house ready to move back home. They are telling us our move-back-in date will be the end of March. After all my purchases are accounted for, receipts turned in, and we are back in, I will make soap!
In the meantime, I've started making sourdough bread. Making sourdough bread has always been a goal of mine, but I needed to take the time to do it. A few years ago, I tried to get a starter going and failed. This time, my starter is going strong.
For the longest time, overthinking the whole process and reading blogs made it seem so complicated that it turned me off the entire thing. I tell you, if you have ever wanted to make your sourdough, now is the time! You will not be sorry. I want to share what I bought to get started. So far, I'm getting a delicious loaf of bread every time.
While shopping around a local food store, Wheat and Vine, I found a Dry Starter. After bringing it home, it sat in the cupboard for a few weeks. I finally pulled it one day and scanned the QR code on the back of the package that pulled a video of instructions on how to get the starter going. Following the directions exactly produced a healthy starter.
Here is the rest of what I bought to make bread.
I'm on a weekend bread-making schedule. I pull Hope, my starter's name, out of the refrigerator on Friday night, feed her, and she is ready to make bread Saturday morning. I make two loaves on the weekend, and that is enough for us for the week. After I make them, I feed her and put her back in the fridge until Friday, when I'm ready to start again.
I am no expert in sourdough bread making, but I wanted to share. It could make an excellent gift for yourself or someone else.
