First Friday - April 2023
Happy Friday! Hopefully, April has come to you with warmer weather and many spring blooms. It has here, we are finally having warmer days and all the flowers.
Monthly Cocktail - Whiskey Smash
This classic cocktail has been around for a long, long time. I found that it was first printed in Jerry Thomas’s “The Bartender’s Guide” in 1887. It’s a smash because you muddle fruit and herbs in the shaker, such as lemon and mint. Most recipes call for simple syrup or a sugar cube. Because of our bees and all the honey, we have, I use honey syrup. Here’s how I make mine.
Ingredients
4 lemon wedges cut in half
5-8 mint leaves
3/4 oz honey syrup
2 oz Bourbon Whiskey
In a cocktail shaker, add lemon wedges and mint leaves and muddle. Add ice, honey syrup, and whiskey bourbon to the shaker and shake until chilled. Double strain into a rocks glass over ice and garnish with mint leaves.
Mocktail Version
If alcohol is not for you, or if you like me and don’t have alcohol during the week, you can make a perfect mocktail subbing Kombucha for the whiskey.

Projects I’m Working On
Over a year ago, I started to give life to this hallway. I started by painting the ceiling black because that's what I had, and I didn't want to spend a lot on this project. I was watching some decorating show; I am trying to remember which one, and I loved this feather wallpaper used in one of the rooms. I will try and find it. As I said, I'm not looking to spend much on this hallway, so I decided to paint my own feather. I drew rough feathers with chalk, and that's how it stayed. Well, this past month, I started to paint the feathers. I am not sure how I feel about it, but I will see it through. My plan is to have it done by the end of the month. Here are some before and in-progress pics. It feels good to be working on this project, and I'm motivated to get it done. So here is your sign to finish that project you started!
Things I’m Loving
With the warmer weather, I am excited to get all our outdoor furniture out. Last summer, it was time to replace the small set we had. I found this one at Walmart and absolutely love it. You buy the sofa with adorable nesting tables separately from swivel chairs. It also came with covers and was easy to assemble.
Have a great month! XO
