Living Room Update... I Stenciled Again!

Happy Weekend!

So the living room is moving along, and I wanted to share what I have done so far.  There are no more yellow walls, I added a stencil, and the dresser is no longer purple.

Because this room seems to get little natural light, I wanted the walls to be super bright!  I chose white right out of the can.

Inspiration and Stenciling

Next on the list was to add a lovely wallpaper like this one, York Large Lattice Gray Trellis Wallpaper.  The print is elegant, and I thought it would be an excellent contrast to the rustic elements that exist in the room.  I started second guessing wallpaper, thinking about the cost and commitment.  I have also never put wallpaper up before. I remembered when I was shopping for the deck stencil, on that site, seeing some stencils that looked very similar.

So I headed back to Cutting Edge Stencils and found this stencil, Tea House Trellis Wall Stencil.

The price was right, $37.95 + shipping.  And no commitment, if I did not like it, I could just paint over it!

If you remember from my moodboard I was going for a gray and white neutral color palette but changed my mind.  I went with this color, Display, from the Magnolia Paint Line, which is still pretty neutral.  I found it at our local Ace Hardware store.  I have these two pieces of art (they are the ones sitting on top of the purple dresser in the above pics) that are bluish gray, and I am planning on hanging on the opposite wall to this accent wall, so perfect!  Also, the sofa I ordered is an ashy gray color, and I thought this would work better with it.

Working with the stencil was fairly easy.  It is not perfect, and if you look close enough, you will see that.  I love the imperfections!

A New Look for an Old Dresser

The other thing I got started on was the buffet. This is going be a bar in the room and add additional storage.  I decided to repaint the old purple dresser.  About five years ago I purchased that dresser at a yard sale for $20!

This was my first time removing paint from furniture.  I picked ZAR Eco Friendly Paint and Varnish remover and found it super easy to work with.

For the color, I decided to create my own. I combined some of the Display color in with a plain white. Making a super light color that would go perfectly.

For the handles, I spray painted them copper!

I picked up a lamp and a few accessories at Home Goods, and it is starting to come together.  I think I will add some shelves above the dresser.

Thanks for checking it out!  Have a great weekend:)
