QUICK DOOR MAKEOVER
I don't love our front door. There I said it, I think a lot about it and spend a lot of time on Pinterest looking at front doors and dreaming about getting a new one. The thing is I walk past our front door all the time, and when I am in the kitchen making soap or cooking my view is of the front door. It is in my face all the time; I guess that is why I am always thinking about wanting a new one.
I want a door with windows to allow more light in our living and allow me to grow a real plant.
I want to look at beautiful wood tones and be able to see out the front of it.
I want clean lines and welcoming neutral or black tones.
Inspiration Doors
Not at all what I described above, but it is what I am working with for now.
A little dull and not too exciting. but for now getting a new front door is low on the priority list of projects around here.
There is just so much going on in the front. The little lunette window with the traditional grid on the storm door in front is creating wonky lines, just so much going on. But we have to keep that storm door. There are some big gaps in between the door and the frame, and it allows a lot of cold air in the winter. The storm door helps with this. I decided the best opting other than getting a new one would be to paint it black.
Painting both doors did not take long at all.
Then it sat like this for a bit for a while. I was really not wanting to take that storm door down, take it apart and spray paint it.
This ended up being a super easy project. After getting the door down, we took the windows and grid out and then started spray painting.
This was also an excellent opportunity to clean all the windows on the door. Don't ever underestimate a clean window. You can't tell from these pictures, but trust me when I say a clean window really does boost the look.
Here is our door now:
I gave the inside a little love too:)
When I painted the walls in our living room white, the door looked yellow and sad. I decided to paint it the same color that I that I had used in the stencil. The color is Display from the Magnolia line; I picked it up at our local Ace Hardware store.
Much better!
So there you have it. Do you like your front door? It is truly such an important part of your home. It is the first impression of your home, and it sets the tone. While this is not my dream door, it is better than what it was. And this little DIY is enough for me right now, while we focus on other projects:)
