Favorite Skincare Products for Winter

So I thought I would tell you about some of my favorite products for winter. Most are from Honey Locust Home, and you can find them in the shop. I will share links to the products that are not, so you can find those too.

Soap, of course!

Our family switched to handmade soap about ten years ago, and since I started using and making it, I find my skin is not nearly as dry as it is used to be.

There are a number of reasons handmade soap is so great, a few are:

Glycerin, while Glycerin is not an ingredient in my recipe it is a natural byproduct of the cold process method of making soap. Why is it so great? Glycerin is a humectant meaning it attracts moisture to the skin. So yay for that!

There are no chemical or synthetic ingredients in my soap, like in most commercial soaps. Synthetic ingredients tend to dry out the skin.

Less waste, I am mindful of the waste we are producing in our family. I carry this over into my business, and for that reason, you will find a simple and recyclable kraft band as my label!

For my face, I really love this goat milk soap. It cleanses without drying.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is my go-to eye makeup remover! I keep a small jar in the bathroom and use it every day. In the winter my eyelids tended to get dry and used to be a problem until I started using coconut oil to remove my makeup.

Witch Hazel

Is a must! I use it to remove dirt and oil and as a toner to tighten pores, in the morning and evening. I use it all year, and especially like it in the winter before I moisturize. My skin is on the dry side in the winter, and I use my lotion stick before bed, an I like to use witch hazel with it.

Lotion Stick

The lotion stick I make and sell is simply Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, and Beeswax. I will explain briefly why I chose those three ingredients.

Coconut Oil: rich in omega and fatty acids, Vitamin E, and contains antimicrobial properties.

Shea Butter: rich in Vitamin A (great for wrinkles and stretch marks), and Vitamin E contains antioxidants helps to nourish and protect the skin

Beeswax: Anti-viral and anti-inflammatory seals in moisture without clogging pores.

I wanted to keep it simple and get the biggest bang for the least amount of ingredients. I have one for just my face in the winter and one for body. I also keep one in my purse and by the computer. I love it because you can quickly glide it on the tops of my hands without getting it on my palms, which I don't like while I am driving or working.

Lip Butter

My lip butter is similar to my lotion stick, but I do add a little extra Vitamin E. I have been addicted to lip butter since forever and honestly love mine the best. Because of the beeswax it really lasts. It is perfect for under lip colors (that can at times dry my lips). The coconut oil and shea butter moisturize and the beeswax seals it all in.

Body Butter

I absolutely love body butter! When my hands and skin do get dry, I grab the body butter. It is not made with water; the main ingredients are coconut oil, jojoba butter, and hemp butter. All hydrating and giving my skin a layer of protection that it so needs in the colder months.

Facial Spay

Over the holidays, while shopping with my kiddos, we were at Urban Outfitters, and my younger daughter was all about Mario Badescu Facial Spray. She picked up the Chamomile and Lavender and we went on our way. Later that day I checked it out and decided I needed it, so I picked up the Aloe, Cucumber, & Green Tea. I use it in the morning after I put on makeup. I like the added burst of moisture! You can find it here

Finally the Natural Rose Crystal Quartz Facial Massage Roller

So this is not necessarily for winter, but I wanted to mention it. I use it in the morning and evening. It reduces puffiness, and it said to increases circulation which can help reduce wrinkles. I also like it because it just feels like a mini face massage. I picked mine up at Wal-Mart the price was right. You can check out this one at ULTA.
