First Friday - February 2022
Welcome to the NEW Honey Locust Home website!! I'm going to talk background stuff for a minute here. When I started Honey Locust Home, I purchased my domain name and chose a hosting company. I was going to start a blog about decorating our home and gardening. To support my blog, I decided to add the e-commerce side to sell the soap I was making. I did all this in WordPress, sitting with a split-screen of my site and a Youtube video teaching me how to do everything. WordPress is excellent, and I was thrilled it was up and worked! As a maker and creator, I found my site was over my head and challenging to update and make it do what I wanted it to do—leaving me insecure about my site. This year my goal was to change that. I spent January researching and redoing my site to something more user-friendly. Hoping I can offer the best experience for you and make it easier for me to manage on the back end. I have so many plans and ideas and am excited for what this year has in store. I hope you come along for the journey and let me know what you think along the way. In the update of my site, I was unable to save the account you created; you will have to create a new one the next time you shop. Thank you for being here and for your continued support.
I feel like this is a fresh start, so I thought I would tell you about First Friday again and why I started it. When I was working for an office, we used to have First Friday, where on the first Friday of every month, we would get together for a drink after work. Since I'm now working this site full time and miss going out with co-workers, and working with people in general, I work by myself now, which can be lonely at times. I decided to start my own First Friday. I share a cocktail, soap of the month, choose a monthly winner, recap things I have done and loved the previous month.
Cocktail - French 75
for 21 and older!!
I love brunch and a Mimosa! This month I made a French 75, which originated in Paris in 1915 and in my opinion is an excellent alternative to a Mimosa. The combination of Gin, Lemon, Sugar, and Champagne, perfect for sipping on during any brunch. Here's how I make mine.
Ingredients for One
1 oz juice of a lemon
1 oz Gin
1 oz simple syrup
Chilled Champagne
To make: combine lemon juice, gin, simple syrup in a champagne flute, or whatever glass you like, top off with chilled champagne and enjoy.
Monthly Soap and Winner
This month I don't have a featured soap. I was hoping to have a heart-shaped lavender soap for this month, but it's not ready yet. It will be soon, though. Hopefully, you will check out my shop and take advantage 20% off this weekend use coupon code FEB22 and free shipping for orders $50 or more.
There is also no winner this month. Unfortunately, while updating my site, I lost all the shopping history. I'm looking forward to picking a winner next month.
Hoping you have a great February! Also, if you order soap, please come back and leave a review. It means so much to me.
