Moving Home

On June 1st, we finally moved home. It was important that we be home before our daughter's graduation on June 6th. It has been crazy hectic, but it's finally starting to settle down. Here is a video of the house the night before moving in.

This past week, I've been reflecting on the past year. Putting everything together and choosing every fixture, light, color, and everything in between has taken up a lot of space in my brain for the past year. Part of me wanted to share the process. The other part of me was fighting to make it out of bed, filled with loss, processing everything, and maintaining life with a smile, you know, fake it till you make it - it was draining.

I like talking about the process of putting together these rooms. However, not everyone wants to hear about it, so I've decided to share it here. This way, I can share freely about it. It may seem odd, but it will help me accept this as our home. Refer to this post if you are new here or are just catching up.

I'll start with the family room. I created a mood board for this room and shared it in the fall; you can check out that post here. I loved this room before and wanted it to have the same look and feel. All we wanted was our home for the past year, and making this space feel and look the same just felt right.

PAINT |THROW BLANKET | SECTIONAL | DRAPES | RECLINERAREA RUG | LAMP | TV ENTERTAINMENT CENTER | PROPANE STOVE

The sectional is from Ashley Furniture, and we are happy with it. We are finding it just right: the perfect size for all of us on a movie night, and is super comfortable. The seats are deep, and it's not too soft and or too firm. My daughter talked me into the ottoman. I prefer a coffee table where I can style old books, candles, and flowers. I like the ottoman and the comfortable feel it gives the room. I changed the pillow covers with some I found at Ikea. They bring some more color and interest to the room. The green leather recliner is from birchlane.com and is quite comfortable. I love that it looks great in the room and is a recliner. In the mood board, I had that I was going with a neutral white on the wall. In the end I chose to go with green, I really liked the green we had before. I chose Billiard Green from Sherwin-Williams

I'm beyond happy with the area rug. It's from rugs-direct.com, and I chose it because I loved the plaid print and the other colors it introduced to the room. When it arrived, I was blown away by the softness—seriously, it was the softest rug I have ever felt. It’s from the Chirs Loves Julia Collection, Loloi Humphrey - cloud pile. The drapes I ultimately chose were more budget-friendly, I found on Amazon. They are natural fiber with a sweet floral print, a sweet nod to the farmhouse look we had before. The entertainment center I will continue shopping for, the one on the mood board, is too big, and the price is way higher than I want to spend. I may not even get one.

I am slowly adding thrifted items to give the room a more lived-in look and curating pieces to give it a not-so-new look. Let me know what you think. Are you working on any rooms right now? How's it going?
