One Room Challenge ™ Fall 2020 Week 3

Wait. It's week three of the One Room Challenge™, and we are halfway done?!? How can that be? There is still so much to do! This is a project of painting. Painting the cabinets, walls, molding, it is all so much and takes so much time! I am doing a bulk of everything at night because I work during the day. But I see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I'll have everything painted by Sunday night. But for now, I'm going to have a glass of wine and write this blog post.

Also, I'm loving participating in the ORC and feel so motivated to get everything done.

If you missed the first two weeks, go check them out Week 1 | Week 2 - Be sure to check out all the guest designers of the challenge and the featured designers too!

Why so much painting?

Well, that's what fits my budget. I'm looking to transform this kitchen for under $1000. Honestly, I am pretty happy with our kitchen; the layout works for our family, and there's plenty of storage. What got all this started was just wanting to get the carpet out. But you know how that goes, if you remove the carpet, you should go ahead and paint the cabinets, if you paint the cabinets, you should paint the walls, paint the walls, and you are going to need a new light fixture. You get it.

Also, let me just say I am beyond happy with how the cabinets are turning out!

I am using Valspar® Cabinet and Furniture Oil Enriched Enamal and am so delighted with it. I was sold when I read the can; Strong Factory Finish, Fade, Scratch & Scuff Resistant, No Sanding or Priming (I primed anyway), Soap, and Water Clean-Up. It paints on smoothly and has a nice finish when it's dry.

The color I'm using for the cabinets is Foggie Mirror. You are getting a little sneak peek of it in these pics.

The instructions for the paint says everything would be dry and ready to go in three days. But I'm waiting until the very last minute to put these cabinets back together, letting them cure as long as possible. The longer the paint has to cure, the more durable it is. I've been overexcited way too many times, putting painted furniture back together too soon to have it mark up easily.

Upcoming this week:

Finish Painting the Cabinets

Paint and Stencil the Walls

Install Tile Floor

Thanks for stopping by!

XO Mindy
