One Room Challenge - Fall 2020 -Week 4
Okay, the kitchen is a complete mess and it looks like I did nothing this past week. I am okay with you questioning if I can actually have this put together in the next few weeks. But I see the light and am getting very excited.
Check out |week 1| week 2| week 3| to see where it all started and how it's been going each week. Also, check out all the featured designers and other guests of the challenge.
Problem Solving
Toe-Kick Saw, do you know what that is? I just learned about it myself. After ripping up the carpet and being most excited about taking the hardwood floors up to put the tile floor throughout, I realized the hardwood floors run under the peninsula. That led to a quick search on removing floors when they are under cabinets or an island. This is where I learned about a Toe-Kick Saw, also called a Flush-Cut. A Toe-Kick Saw fits between the cabinet base and the floors and allows you to cut the floors flush to the cabinets without removing the cabinets and leaving part of the floor underneath the cabinets. Everything said they could be difficult and dangerous to use. At this point, I started making a plan to keep the hardwoods and making them work. Talking to Josh about how this was a bummer, he began to look into removing the hardwoods. He found the same thing I did and headed to Harbor Freight to get a Toe-Kick Saw. We are now removing the floors. This is not a fun job, and the toe kick saw is temperamental. At one point, it was completely stuck under the cabinets, but with a little teamwork, we got it out. We still have some of the floors to remove and will hopefully be tiling this weekend.
Plans for the floor
Have I told you about the tile for the floor? I have been in love with the idea of a tile checkered floor pattern forever. Our kitchen is in the center of the house, and there are two rooms off of it that have different wood floors. Instead of trying to match one of those hardwoods, I decided the checkered tile floor would be perfect. So that is what I am going to do.
A little shopping
I also found a table and chairs this week on Facebook Marketplace. I have gone on every day, and finally, this one popped up. At this point, I am planning on leaving it as is. There will not be time to sand and stain it to the exact color I want. Overall, the wood tone is pretty good, and I love the caning detail on the chairs. Hopefully, it works! Do you shop on Facebook Marketplace? There is so much good stuff!
Plans for this week:
Finish taking up the hardwood floors
Stencil the walls
Tile the floor
